Snow and rain slow Wisconsin fieldwork

USDA says snow delayed some fieldwork in northern Wisconsin while rain slowed progress in parts of southern Wisconsin this past week.

There are scattered reports of oat and corn planting in southern Wisconsin, but very little activity elsewhere.

Just 2% of the state’s oats are planted, and only 3% of spring tillage is complete.

Topsoil moisture is 62% adequate, 11% surplus, and 19% short while subsoil moisture is only 55% adequate, 6% surplus, and 28% short.

Fifty-eight percent of the Wisconsin winter wheat crop is in good condition, with 10% listed as excellent.
