Who is Arnie...

This year marks my 25th year in Country Radio and my 21st here at COW97. My radio days began as a senior in high school at my hometown radio station WHTL in Whitehall, WI. I am a 2002 graduate of the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, a husband, and a father of three.
We get to be a part of many great things in radio, but the #1 reason I do it is because of the music. I am a country music freak. New…old…twang…no twang…it is the reason I’ve been hanging around country radio for 24 years.

I’m probably happiest listening to the saddest songs….crazy??….maybe!

I want to say “thank you.” I know there are choices in which station you listen to and the fact that you choose COW97 is just great! Call the COW lines anytime. This is your station and I feel privileged to be a part of your day!

Arnie has been nominated for 3 of the last 4 years by the CMA & 3 of the last 4 years by the ACM for Personality of The Year, and named Best Morning Show by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association 5 times.

Surprising a young kid at Country Fest with meet & greets for Toby Keith. He was a big fan and his dad was gone serving in Iraq at the time. His grandma contacted me ahead of time and we were able to surprise him at his campsite. I could see it meant the world to him and his family.

Email Ben

Hello!...My name is Ben Butler and me and Arnie are helping to start your day off with a bang, every weekday morning from 6-10!

I was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin and spent my childhood growing up in Black River Falls so this truly is home for me.  After graduating from Black River Falls High School, I took some classes in La Crosse before ending up at UW-Eau Claire.

I began my radio career right here at the ripe age of 20.  Over the past 16 years, I have done about every shift there is, morning, noon and night, last coming from the Wausau-Stevens Point area.

I LOVE country music and have a pretty wide array of knowledge in the field.  Feel free to e-mail me at or give me and Arnie a call in the studio from 6-10am (888) 269-2699…I’d love to chat!

Ben has been nominated 3 of the past 4 years by the CMA & 3 of the past 4 years by the ACM for Personality of The Year, and named Best Morning Show by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association 5 times.

The Incredible Hulk…who's gonna mess with that guy?

If they were to make a movie about you, who would play you and what would the title be?

Fred Savage (People tell me I looked like him when I was a kid)        “Beyond Help”

If you could meet anyone famous, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

I never did get to meet George Jones, Cash or Waylon...that would be cool...or, of course, any personalities from my favorite game shows!

What is your weirdest quirk?

I’m not the tidiest person but with certain things, everything has to be in a certain order or done in a certain way.  I’m sure it’s a pain in the butt for people that encounter this.

A picture of my daughters, Hailee, Scarlett & Addie.

Water...true story

Who is Mike...
Let’s see….I was born in a manger in Rock County, WI back when Dwight Eisenhower was president. It was dark. On our family farm we raised various crops and occasional livestock. I began driving tractors at the age of five. Hit my first tree at the age of …uh five. Our best crop was rocks. We always picked ‘em in the spring. Those buggers kept coming back. And we were always fencing. Had to make sure that corn we planted didn’t uproot itself and run away.

I barely remember the 70s. Must have been fun, I hope. Have worked in radio since 1979. I’ve been married to Theresa since 1981 and have two great sons, Max and Colin. In fact they turned out a lot better than me. I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. I live in a state of insanity, confusion and all-around hallucination.
Mike has been twice named Best Radio Show by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association.

Superman. Cause he’s Superman for god’s sake! C’mon! You get to wear your underpants outside of your clothes.

If they were to make a movie about you, who would play you and what would the title be…
Tommy Lee Jones and the title, “THE GUY CALLED…” or “GO LAY BY YOUR DISH”

If you could meet anyone famous, dead or alive, who would it be and why…
Way too many to list. Lincoln would be good. G. Washington too, as well as my grandfather and various other historical figures.
Cause they’re all historical!

What are 3 things you can’t live without…
my wife, my sons, my good tasting beer.

E-Mail Rachel

Hey there, I’m Rachel Chase and I’m super stoked that you’re coming along with me in the afternoon on COW97.

Born and raised in small town Bonduel, Wisconsin where I grew up surrounded by extended family. I spent my younger years playing volleyball, basketball and softball as well as attending many football and baseball games. Yeah, I like sports, which is where I got my start in broadcasting as a PA announcer for the Bonduel Broncos. I still announce when I go back to visit my hometown in the summer.

I graduated from UWSP with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and also attended Radio 1 Broadcast School. Since graduating from Radio 1, my career has taken me to stations in Shawano, WI, Garden City, KS, Hibbing, MN, La Crosse, WI and now I’ve landed at COW97.

I have dabbled in all kinds of music, but country music is definitely my favorite. I love going to concerts and have been lucky enough to meet several artists.

When I’m not playing radio, there are several places you can find me. I could be at home binge watching TV shows and movies with the boyfriend. I could be out shopping, or you could find me at a local establishment tipping a few back….all viable options.

Who is Clary?....
I was born and raised in Viroqua and now live in Holmen with my wife of 25 years Sandra. My radio career started in 1977 and has taken me around the area and to St Louis. After being in St Louis I realized how nice this area really is.
My favorite sports teams are...
the Packers, Brewers and in high school the only Vikings I would cheer for is The Holmen Vikings
As a child I wanted to be...
a Brain Surgeon and if that didn't work out a garbage man.
The person I would really like to meet...
Benito Mussolini.
Three things that I absolutely cannot live without...
food, water and sleep.

Who is Adam...

I come from the faraway land of Fond du Lac, and have lived in La Crosse since 2012 when I started at UWL. I’m a proud member of the Class of 2016, and loving father of three bass guitars.

My love of sports was born on August 20th, 1999, when I was taken to old County Stadium in Milwaukee to watch the Brewers lose 10-3 in a game where Barry Bonds hit two of his 762* home runs. I’ve followed along with the team ever since, and still have my commemorative balls from the opening game of Miller Park and the 2002 All Star Game above my desk! I used to be a HUGE Packer fan, but after 2014 season I’ve eased up a bit (things got a bit TOO intense!). Also I enjoy the Toronto Maple Leafs, and have a Tie Domi jersey hanging up next to my Bart Starr one in the ESPN La Crosse studio.

This is my fourth radio station I’ve worked for since starting in high school at WMDC in Mayville, Wisconsin. I’ve also worked in television, which is where I got my play-by-play start.

Fun Facts About Adam…

Favorite place to hang out when not working…

Up north at my cabin. Despite working in radio, I know that sometimes silence is golden.

Favorite Band…

Rush. Everything I know how to play/do on bass guitar is at least partially inspired by Geddy Lee’s style of playing. Power Windows is my favorite album of theirs, but if you want to start listening, I’d recommend Moving Pictures first.

Dirty Little Secret…

I have an out of this world recipe collection and am an award-winning chili cook.

What did you want to be as a kid?

Either a weatherman or a pro baseball player. My college baseball career may have ended after 24 hours, BUT I did used to record weather forecasts at a station I worked for, so I made it!

What is your favorite sports moment you’ve seen live?

When the Brewers won the NL Central in 2011. Staying after the Crew won their game against the Marlins that night and watching the Cubs-Cardinals game with everyone on the jumbotron was so surreal. I still have the confetti from the postgame celebration.

If they were to make a move about you, who would play you and what would the title be?

A young Dustin Hoffman; “Just Wing It”
